Managing As Mission

Showing organizations how to create sustainable change by including Managing as part of their Mission.

Helping Organizations Create Sustainable Change by Including Managing as Part of Their Mission

Nonprofit organizations often struggle to create sustainable change. Changing the interior of a nonprofit to better mirror the change the organization wants to create, can bring the mission to life.

Lori has decades-long experience working in and leading nonprofits in the US and internationally, and is passionate about the creation of a better world through excellence in organizational structure, planning and managing. She has directed organizations focused on service delivery, policy and advocacy, and has consulted with both organizations and networks on board development, strategic planning, structure and managing. Her work has taken her to many countries in Africa, Asia and South America, for partnerships with youth groups, assessments in refugee situations, capacity development on education in emergencies and research on children in armed groups. In the US, she has worked on issues of homelessness and youth sexual and reproductive health.

Lori received her BA in Education from Kean University, her Masters in Social Work from Columbia University and her PhD in Social Welfare from New York’s City University Graduate Center. Her dissertation, titled “Conducting Qualitative Research in Countries at War, Implementation and Impact Factors in a Study of Girls in Armed Groups” focused on the ethics of research with unaccompanied children in conflict settings.

Speaking Engagements

Lori’s presentation style is accessible, and includes real-world examples and humor. She has the ability to connect with audiences of five or 500, making people feel, as individuals, that she is speaking directly to them.

Lori has the capacity to draw together ideas during Q&A sessions so that they build on one another and create something new; it is almost like a magic show without the curtains or illusions, and the audience feels as though they have created and own the product that emerges. Which they do.

Lori has:

  • Appeared on CNN
  • Been a guest on multiple Public Radio stations/markets including WNYC
  • Appeared in videos for Microsoft in Education, the World International Summit for Education and others
  • Made remarks as keynote speaker and on panels and has facilitated discussions and chaired panels: at the United Nations including making statements at UN conferences, at UNICEF, UNESCO, UNHCR; to national government representatives and bodies in many countries; at think tanks such as The Brookings Institution and within academia.
